You may have noticed a rather high profile product launch this weekend, but it looks like the PR folks at Microsoft either didn’t realize, or chose to put out some of their own massive news under the year’s biggest media shadow.
The new product is an improved Xbox 360, which will replace the 20GB hard drive of the current version with a 60GB model. The new console is expected in August, and in the meantime, the 20GB Xbox will drop $50, to $300. The entry level 360 Arcade and 120GB 360 Elite will stay where they are, both in price and capacity. And according to Associated Press, the new model could also se support for a Netflix movie streaming service, for which a larger hard drive would certainly come in useful.

We’ve seen our share of so-called air purifiers, and desktop vacuums, but when they combine into a maximum cleaning tool, and it’s powered by USB, you get to see it here. It sits on your desk, quietly sucking up all the dust coming your way from your filthy co-workers. And to make sure you don’t share yours with them, it quickly transforms into a small hand-held vacuum cleaner with brush, just to keep your desk and keyboard clean. Save your health, and your USB ports! Bonus “Can you see what’s wrong with this picture?” pic after the jump.
Microsoft revealed this day at their E3 press conference that their dashboard will be completely redesigned in the fall, with an all new avatar system similar to that on the Wii. The fully customizable avatars, designed by Rare, can be imported into other games to be used as playable characters. New channels include the My Xbox channel, which includes games, pics and video. The friend list will now be manifested as “Community,” which uses the avatars to designate whether or not a friend is signed on.
Being able to use the iPhone or iPod touch for basic data storage and file browsing has been a missing feature for over a year now. But an app called DataCase, available July 28, claims it will finally turn the iPhone or iTouch into a “handheld wireless drive.” DataCase uses Bonjour in the same manner as Air Disk—which means the iPhone’s drive will automatically appear in a Mac’s finder. Once you’ve files on the iPhone, you can browse, view and even delete them. Since the app works with any “wirelessly capable computer,” Computers and Linux are also supported. For only $7 bucks this apps sounds way too good to be true. Let’s hope it isn’t. [
