Proof positive that UK consumers don’t like paying for handsets and a hefty contract. When O2, the UK carrier for the new, subsidized iPhone 3G opened up its website for pre-orders it was swamped, with 13,000 buyers hitting it every second. Needless to day, O2 sold out it’s allocation pretty swiftly and shut up shop.
Curiously, this goes against Apple’s rule which states “no pre-orders”. Both O2 and the other official sales partner, Carphone Warehouse, say they kept back stock for Friday’s launch. In the details given to Reuters, neither company revealed how many units they’ve already sold, nor which plans they’re on. Remember, O2 is offering a free 8GB iPhone on the £45 per month plan, and it’s pretty simple to sell out of something if it is free. Still, 13,000 per second is breathtaking, and more like a Madonna concert than a telephone launch.

The SensoGlove is a $120 golf glove which continually monitors the pressure of your grip via four embedded pressure sensors. The readout on the back of the glove tells you to back off your squeezing: Apparently white knuckles are not good for your game.
We’d like to spend time pointing out that the addition of a back-of-the-hand display is likely to cause a distraction more detrimental to your swing than a mere heavy grip, but we were, in turn, distracted by the comedy value of the product blurb: Simply add the naughty word of your choice into any of the spaces:
Maintaining a lighter grip pressure is regularly discussed in every magazine and by all the professional [—–]. The trouble is it’s difficult to learn exactly what they mean by a light grip pressure and most end up with a [—–].
Practicing with SensoGlove will teach you the correct grip pressure for a smooth, consistent [—–] that delivers greater [—–], enhanced [—–] and lower [—–]!
The SensoGlove can be used for backyard practice or during an actual [—–].

How To Avoid the Upcoming Onslaught of iPhone/Apple Coverage [Applegasm]
Unless you’ve been in a coma for the last 2 months, discovered technology yesterday, or are just plain dumb, you’ve heard the iPhone 3G is coming out on Friday. We know some of you could care less about the nuanced intricacies of the iPhone, but it shouldn’t be any shock that will be the focus of Gizmodo for the next few days. So we’re just reminding you that you can avoid all such news by visiting http://www.gizmodo.com/tag/not:apple to nix all apple news (or alternative iPhone in there just to get rid of iPhone news).

This story from the Washington Times seems more ridiculous than ridiculously awesome, but the base of it is that some official in the Department of Homeland Security has “expressed great interest” in a wrist bracelet that can be remotely activated to stun the wearer. It works by taking the place of a boarding pass, which you then wear on your wrist so the flight attendants can know who you’re, where you are, and even shock you if you’re misbehaving. What makes this thing totally absurd is the diagram after the jump. A man threatens a crew member with a knife. The crew member shocks the man into submission, then SHOCKS EVERYONE ELSE as punishment for sitting passively by while he was being threatened.
Update: Sorry, that last panel looks like a Photoshop. You fooled us, guy with rudimentary knowledge of the human anatomy!
