Check it out: According to a memo obtained by the Boy Genius Report, AT&T has some sort of huge “promotional launch” planned for this summer. As such, the company is asking its employees not to schedule any holidays from mid-June to mid-July so as to ensure sufficient staffing. Me, I’m banking on that highly anticipated 3-G Blackberry 9000, but there are others in the blogosphere that seem to think it could be related to another launch.

Peep the full memo below.

Vacation Schedules

To: All Employees

Last year at this time we asked that all vacations be scheduled before June 15 or after July 15, to ensure adequate store staffing and to give everyone an equal chance to benefit from an exciting product launch. Thanks to your hard work, we experienced excellent sales during the mid-summer period. This year, the numbers you produced in 2007 will be hard to beat; but as a business, we have to rise to the challenge, and make every effort to exceed last year’s sales results. Your management team is counting on you!

We’ll meet the challenge “head-on” by providing an exciting Summer Promotional Launch to enable your sales to soar. We again anticipate heavier than normal customer traffic in our stores, providing an excellent earning opportunity for each front line retail sales consultant (RSC) in company owned retail stores.

To ensure proper staffing during this period, Sales personnel planning to take approved time off are encouraged to schedule their vacations before June 15 or after July 12 to participate in the heavy selling period.

Previously approved vacation will be allowed where voluntary rescheduling isn’t feasible.

No additional vacation will be approved for 6/15 -€“ 7/12

If customer traffic is manageable, there might be an chance to approve vacation toward the end of the period. Managers will communicate updates as they become available.

cablevisionwirelesss.jpgI guess Cablevision was feeling a tiny left out after the WiMaxMegaZord became official with Comcast and Time on board, because they’re planning to drop $350 million on a wireless broadband network for New York. It’ll basically be a massive Wi-Fi network initially (free for customers), though Cablevision states “ultimately it will be a mobile voice-capable network.” Which is the real peg: a quadruple play option with bundled wireless (now just to compete w/ TWC and Comcast, let alone wireless companies). At least hopefully, since a $350 million glorified Wi-Fi network isn’t gonna get ‘em very far. [Yahoo!]

Camouflage Paint Hides Vehicles From Radar, Subsequent Missiles [Military]

M551_Sheridan_tank.jpegA German inventor has developed a paint called AR 1 that can hide a car from radar, and most importantly, “all militarily relevant frequencies.” How it works is unclear, though one test researcher proposes it’s either by reflecting radar waves in a pattern so they cancel one another out, or by utilizing microscopic magnets to absorb radar radiation. And no, it won’t get you out of speeding tickets.

The inventor’s story is an interesting one, involving thousands of hours of lab trial and error, as well as international military interest in his product…that far outshined the response from his own country’s military.

But apparently the most promising and equitable use for such a paint could be civilian. Airport towers and buildings have a long history of interfering with flight control radars. And to simply make them disappear would be quite useful—as opposed to calling hangar 12 in for a landing or something. [Spiegel On the internet via NewLaunches][image]

20pogue2190.jpg Online reseller JR.com is listing a new mystery-cam from Creative, called the Vado, which promises to be very similar to the super successful Flip. The specifications read like they have been lifted from the Flip itself: VGA cam, one-button recording, good low-light performance, two hour recording on a 2GB, direct upload to YouTube or Photobucket, 2x zoom, rechargeable AA batteries and a built-in flexible USB connector.

The only differences seems to be that the Vado has a 2″ LCD against the Flip’s 1.5″, and that it will be available in both silver and pink. Even the price is the same, at $100.

It’s a surprise that nobody has done this before. The modest little Flip commands a huge 13% of the entire market, proving the demand for a cheap and cheerful camcorder. We expect that Vado won’t be the first attempt to cut a slice of this cake.

The picture above is a Photoshop job: (Pure, the makers of Flip, asked us to take the Creative logo off the Photoshopped picture ).

There is no product shot as yet. You can see a screengrab of the errant page below, just in case the original goes offline (and we suspect it might). We’ll be keeping a close eye on this. As they say in Streetfighter II: “Round One: Fight!”

The Wii’s “Nintendo Channel” just went live, giving you a way to both watch trailers of current and upcoming Nintendo games, and feed Nintendo information on what games you play. What’s the latter for? So Nintendo can superior customize the trailers of games to recommend to you, thus making you buy more games and completing the cycle by feeding THOSE stats back to them. How good is it? Okay, I suppose. The other stuff, like downloading DS demos and finding game information (how many players, whether the nunchuck is supported) is more useful. Hit the jump for a huge gallery tour.

The trailers aren’t HD trailers like you get on the Xbox 360 Marketplace. It’s more like grainy YouTube videos before YouTube raised the quality of their videos. You can pause, and you can skip around in the video by hitting B. The videos go fullscreen if you click on them. There are DS titles, which is nice. Edit: Corrected errors.

Downloading DS demos is probably a huge part of why you’d use this channel. It’s easy, just flip on the DS, pick a demo, and begin transferring.

The titles section lets you see what’s upcoming and get relevant game stats. There’s little worse than buying a game you think is multiplayer and getting home and finding out that it’s for you only. Or just plain lousy, in the case of Iron Man, but the Nintendo Channel doesn’t give game ratings. It does give you a massive image of the box art though.
