You know you’re a nerd when you’re trying to impress a date by working with her on an elaborate, do-it-yourself project for the Maker Faire.

For Corey McGuire, the tactic worked.

McGuire said that he spent many hours volunteering his time on various Maker Faire projects last year, in an effort to woo his bride-to-be.

“You have to try really hard when you are trying to woo a woman with nerdiness,” McGuire stated.

This weekend, McGuire and his sweetheart, Hallie McConlogue, will get married at the Faire.

McConlogue, an independent programmer and designer, and McGuire, a NASA Ames researcher, have together contributed to a half-dozen projects for the annual do-it-yourself festival, now in its third year.

For a preview of the McConlogue-McGuire wedding and other exhibits — including a 20-foot flaming woman and a machine that blows soap bubbles filled with hydrogen — check out our preview story: From Welding to Weddings, DIY Rules at Maker Faire

And tune in to Gadget Lab, where we’ll be posting news, photos and videos in our Maker Faire category all weekend long.

SAN MATEO, California — We’re on the ground here at Maker Faire, after a two-hour long odyssey through the streets of this San Francisco suburb. Outside, it’s a wild scene: traffic is backed up for miles and near the Faire, clumps of nerds are streaming past stucco condominiums like hippies through the fields of Woodstock.

Inside, the sound of gears turning wafts through the air like the smoke from the barbecue joints in the food court. Within a minute of walking through the gates, we’ve already seen people grinding their own flour with a modded stationary bike, muffin vehicles, a solar-powered chariot pulled by an Arnold Schwarzenegger robot, swarm bots, and a booth full of iPhone hacks.

Keep it locked here for a series of video, pics, and posts throughout the day.
