When Carphone Warehouse and O2 cut the price of the 8GB iPhone last month, it was seen as a move to shift stock before the iPhone’s expected Second Coming this summer. And it worked. The 8GB model swiftly sold out.
Maybe it worked a little too well. According to the Guardian, Carphone Warehouse is also out of the 16GB model, and 02 has only a few left. Is this an ordering snafu or is there really a Wii-like iPhone drought in progress? The UK Apple Store still lists both models with a ship date of two days. But if there’s a shortage, you can be sure that Apple would keep remaining units for itself: The rumor mill would go into overdrive if Apple itself ran out of phones.
