Onebig Sprint is about to begin selling something I’ve wanted for ages: a tiny battery-powered portable WiFi router that feeds its EVDO internet connection to those nearby. The problem? Sprint’s PHS3000 Personal Hotspot, available March 1, is only half of the device it should be: you have to plug in a real EVDO card or phone into its USB port for it to work. An essential component has to be purchased separately, and it does nothing useful whatsoever by itself.

I can comprehend how people who already own an EVDO card or data-sharing cellphone might be interested, but it’s a shame that it doesn’t do to it all.

You can already buy this for $180 direct. Let’s hope Sprint sees sense and bundles it inexpensively with a phone-as-modem plan or something cute by Novatel.

Sippy Mask Turns You Into an Alien From Mos Eisley Cantina [Star Wars]

ProboscisDrink.jpg In the light, this sippy mask by Jennifer Maestre gives me Darkman vibes, like there’s some horrible disfigurement underneath. But, under a black light, the whole thing glows, including the little drinkie tube, so I could definitely see more of a Star Wars chillin’ at the cantina type of look, especially with some more “in a galaxy far, far away” duds. Practical purpose? What? So, what sci-fi/movie aesthetic do you see? [MAKE]
