startrekcommunicator.jpgThis “life-size” Star Trek Communicator is a dream for each budding Kirk out there, sounding like the real thing when you flip it open, and with nine different voice phrases from the Television series built in. So okay, you can’t actually contact anyone with it, but who needs that when you can pretend with “Spock here, Captain” or talk to the Enterprise with “Bridge, this is the captain?” Just don’t be wearing a red suit. Available in March for $29.99 [Geek Alerts]

cybershot902.jpgThe new C702 Cyber-shot from Sony Ericsson does what each camera should do. It uses built-in aGPS to stamp location data onto every pic you take with its 3.2 MP camera.

The C702s brother, the C902, has a better camera (5MP) and also sports face detection technology, a feature found in some high-end cameras already. This tracks the faces in the shot and focusses on them, making sure you don’t get a sharp wall and a blurred friend if you frame off-center. Inexplicably, though, this otherwise better model forgoes the GPS tagging. Why?

Phone-wise, both handsets have UMTS/HSDPA/GSM/EDGE, an FM radio, music player and slots for a Memory Stick Micro.

Both phones suffer from a poor UI design, though. It just shows that simply adding in touch doesn’t mean a thing without some thought. It might be because I’m spoiled on the iPod Touch interface, but after spending about a minute to unlock the thing, it just got worse. Everything I touched on screen did something unexpected, or dumped me into a confusing morass of graphics. Sony Ericsson need to buck up and make something as good as the old P900 again.

LG KT610 Cellphone Offers GPS, HSDPA, QWERTY Keypad [Cellphones]

LG%20Logo%20GI.jpgLG are beating the cellphone-gasm that will be the Mobile World Congress 2008 by releasing their KT610 model ahead of the game. There are no images of the handset yet, but features that have been confirmed include a candybar design, GPS, HSDPA (3.6Mbps) and a 2.4-inch VGA flip screen, concealing a QWERTY keypad.

The cellphone will run an OS that will be based on Symbian OS v9.2 and S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1. Support for push email functionality will also be incorporated. There’s no mistake this handset is going to be a strong multimedia orientated device, in fact, LG have stated as much, “[KT610 users] can take full advantage of a rich suite of multimedia features and applications.” Couple this with the earlier KF700 model we spotted, and it looks like our friends at LG are going to have quite a show.
