Feature01 If you’re afraid to use your spanky new digital SLR on anything but sunny days, Think Tank Pic could help extend your range with the new Hydrophobia 300-600, a waterproof cover designed to protect camera and lens from the elements. A clear panel on the back lets you see all controls, and two clean room-style sleeves let you safely get to them.

The Hydrophobia sells for $150. An optional eyepiece adapter is $35.

lasermeat.jpgIt might not be the stunning accomplishment of brilliant scientific engineering that is the cheeseburger in a can, but the indomitable spirit of man means we’ll never stop trying to top it. The latest attempt: Laser-etched lunchmeats. Classier than savagely severing dead animal flesh into pieces with a laser, Mleak’s laser-etched art brings refined aesthetics to the table of processed meatstuffs. Okay, searing a pig onto a block of bologna is actually pretty tasteless, even if it is partially composed of chicken meat. [MAKE]

Apple Store Is Down, Down, Down [Apple]

As expected. They’ll be back soon, like always. I sense a strong weak disturbance in the Force. Maybe updated MacBooks or iPhones or USB-powered cocktail shakers. Or something like that. Update: Or maybe not even that. All the Apple Stores throughout the World are up right now, including the one in the UK. Usually, all the stores go down simultaneously if there is a significant product launch. Only the US one went down this time. Keep coming back for more updates, expected at 8:30AM EDT. Update 2: according to sources, the updates are going to be “minor,” so don’t hold your breath.

Microsoft Sued, Zune Owner Claims Ear Damage [Shocking]

zune.jpgA man who allegedly received an electric shock from his Zune headphones has filed a lawsuit against Microsoft. Joel Geddis received the shock in November of 2006, and since then he has suffered “blood and fluid leakage from (his) ear canal” and “incessant ringing and anguish.” [Sorry West Coast lunchers!] This news comes days after iPod classic owners reported similar incidents since a new firmware update. Update: Joel has written us to clarify his claim.

Correction Request: Microsoft Sued, Zune Owner Claims Ear Damage Microsoft Zune Injuries Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 4:14 PM To: bennyg@gizmodo.com Hi Benny,

I read your article and notice that you didn’t mention the blast of noise that happened the very same instant as the shock. The coupling of these two device malfunctions are a key part of the claim. Would you mind updating the post?

The actual claim can be found here: www.microsoftzuneinjuries.com

Regards,

Joel

Thanks for the update, but we’re not sure what the domain name is getting at — as far as we know, this guy’s lawsuit is based solely on the headphone injury, but perhaps it will one day expand to represent victims of any and all bodily harm came across while trying to join the Social. Geddis’ attorneys hope to make this a class-action case, but first they’ll have to find more Zune owners who have experienced this problem. Finding a niche that narrow sounds like a tall order to us. Meet the AA-12 (Auto Assault 12) automatic shotgun, a weapon that would be more at home in a first-person-shooter than in the real world. The 12 gauge gun will spit out 300 rounds per minute, and has a range of projectiles, including the Frag-12, which is more of a miniature missile than a bullet: it has a range of up to 175 meters (575 feet).

The AA-12 is designed for military use, and can survive below zero temperatures or a dunk in salt water thanks to its stainless steel construction. It uses a Tommy-Gun like cylinder to feed in the cartrides and is designed to operate with nearly no recoil.

Just pray you never have one pointed at you.
