The Official Shoes of Gadget Lab don’t seem to be getting any closer to production, but the Maloof brothers, who run the McFly 2015 project, have the next ideal thing: Stickers.
The self-fastening sneakers from Back to the Future II are possibly the ultimate gadget-nerd footwear, and while the brothers fight for Nike to actually make the things, they’re giving away stickers in a promo competition. Co-Founder Mickey Maloof emailed us with the details: “Visit the website […] and tell us what the moon states (yeah, it’s a speaking moon)”.
Anyone in the world who has an address can enter. Off you go!

Hanging Printer Saves Desk Space [Gadgets]
Our current complaint with our printers is that it takes up too much space around the office, both in the horizontal and the vertical, that we need one individual shelf just to accommodate the thing. Enter the Hanging Printer. It’s a standard printer, yes, but hangs off the side of your desk in order to save on clutter and to keep printouts within reach. We don’t see any downside to this. Don’t forget to send in your pictures for the lousiest casemods you can find. They don’t have to be ones you made personally—although we’ve gotten a few personal entries from Gizmodo readers that make us shake our heads in shame—so send them in to contests@gizmodo.com with the subject “Crappy Casemod Contest.”

Making macho game controllers is a game unto itself, and history is littered with such attempts to appeal to the strange minds of adolescent boys. Zalman’s FPSGun is the latest, a mouse with a gungrip and a button where the trigger would be.
It has a glowing scrollwheel, 2000 dpi sensor, and it doesn’t quite work right. Maximum Personal computer reports that it tracks unequally well on the horizontal and vertical axes, is too small for comfortable use, and is no good for anything except games.
What next, a penis mouse?

New Zealander, saxophonist and tinkerer Peter Davey appears to have made a Sonic Boiler, a small device that uses sound waves to boil water nearly instantly. He made his first successful model 30 years ago, and has been using it ever since.
According to Davey, it’s all about the vibes. He came up with the idea after noticing his sax would cause things in the home to resonate as he played. He hasn’t revealed the secret of the boiler, but reckons that it could be manufactured for around $9 (US$7): “They could sell a million of the things in China”.
The boffins are baffled. Professor Arthur Williamson, a retired engineer, took a look. According to Stuff.co.nz,
He watched Davey boil various quantities of water, took notes of the energy used and temperatures reached. He left scratching his head.
After the amount of snake-oil perpetual motion machines we’ve seen, we’ll remain hopefully skeptical.
